Geopolitical Tensions Remain High:
The U.S.–Iran standoff still threatens to disrupt the Strait of Hormuz, a key chokepoint for 20% of global oil and gas trade. Shipping delays, rising surcharges, and inflation ripple risks remain especially acute for Asia, Europe, and U.S. routes.
Tariff Uncertainty Deepens:
The contested “Liberation Day” tariffs remain in force. A federal court stay has paused any rollback, and no relief is expected before late summer. A critical hearing on July 31 is next, but any Supreme Court review could stretch into 2026.

Reciprocal Tariffs – What’s at Stake?
Unless new trade deals are finalized, the U.S. will implement steep new tariffs starting August 1:
- 30% on goods from the EU and Mexico
- 35% in Canada
- 50% in Brazil
- 15–20% for others, with some categories reaching 50%
Some countries, such as Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the UK, have already secured agreements to stabilize rates at lower levels.
Global Countermeasures Taking Shape:
- The EU has prepared €93 billion in counter-tariffs (20–30%) to be activated by August 7 if talks with the U.S. break down.
- The U.S. is also expanding Section 232 actions, starting with a 50% copper tariff on August 1 and new investigations into polysilicon, drones, semiconductors, and pharmaceuticals that could trigger more duties by year-end.

¿Qué Hay de Nuevo?
Las Tensiones Geopolíticas Siguen Altas:
El conflicto entre EE. UU. e Irán sigue amenazando con interrumpir el Estrecho de Ormuz, un punto crítico por donde pasa el 20 % del comercio mundial de petróleo y gas. Persisten los riesgos de retrasos en envíos, recargos más altos e inflación, sobre todo en las rutas entre Asia, Europa y EE. UU.
Aumenta la Incertidumbre Arancelaria:
Los controvertidos aranceles del “Día de la Liberación” siguen en vigor. Una suspensión emitida por una corte federal ha frenado cualquier retroceso, y no se espera alivio antes de finales del verano. La próxima fecha clave es una audiencia el 31 de julio, aunque una revisión por parte de la Corte Suprema podría extenderse hasta 2026.

Aranceles Recíprocos – ¿Qué Está en Juego?
A menos que se cierren nuevos acuerdos comerciales, EE. UU. impondrá nuevos aranceles a partir del 1 de agosto:
- 30 % a productos provenientes de la Unión Europea y México
- 35 % a productos de Canadá
- 50 % a productos de Brasil
- Entre 15 % y 20 % a otros países, con algunas categorías alcanzando hasta el 50 %
Algunos países, como Japón, Filipinas, Vietnam, Indonesia y el Reino Unido, ya han asegurado acuerdos que estabilizan las tasas a niveles más bajos.
Contramedidas Globales en Marcha
- La Unión Europea ha preparado 93.000 millones de euros en contramedidas arancelarias (entre 20 % y 30 %) que se activarán el 7 de agosto si fracasan las negociaciones con EE. UU.
- Estados Unidos también está ampliando las acciones bajo la Sección 232, comenzando con un arancel del 50 % al cobre desde el 1 de agosto y nuevas investigaciones sobre polisilicio, drones, semiconductores y productos farmacéuticos, que podrían derivar en más aranceles antes de fin de año.
