Vector Global Giving is a natural extension of our culture and our strong belief that a few caring people can change the world. Logistics touches everything we do, and thus, logistics is the perfect place to start. By officially launching the Vector Global Giving initiatives, we are putting our time and money where our mouth is, and we look forward to growing partnerships with similar minded people and organizations to celebrate our values and make a positive impact in the world.
The Atlanta Cycling Festival is a week long festival all around bicycling! Atlanta bicycle rides, bicycle classes and, of course, bicycle parties.
Girltank is an ode to all the women and girls around the world - seen and unseen - that are taking risks, making hard, sometimes impossible decisions and courageously thinking big about how we can collectively make the world a better place for everyone to live and to thrive. We are a collaborative and global community of female social innovators. We accelerate the bold ideas and ambitions of our members by providing them with access to resources, strategic partnerships, funding and visibility. Our vision is a world where female thought leaders and founders of social innovation ventures are leading and provoking change in every region of the world.
Working with a company like Vector Global, full of smart and passionate and committed team members, has been an amazing support to our work. We are a global organization that is just beginning to roll out a local strategy for engagement in Atlanta. And we have been able to call on Enrique and his team for ideas, support and local contacts. And he always enthusiastically opens his rolodex of contacts or clears off his conference table and provides coffee so that we can best move our work forward. We are excited about continuing to build our relationship and partnership. And we are inspired by this company's innovative take on building a team of the future that not only sell services, but that also contributes to solving the world's most pressing problems.
The mission of Books For Africa is to end the book famine in Africa. With your help, we will help create a culture of literacy and provide the tools of empowerment to the next generation of parents, teachers, and leaders in Africa. Books donated by publishers, schools, libraries, individuals, and organizations are sorted and packed by volunteers who carefully choose books that are age and subject appropriate. We send good books, enough books for a whole class to use. They are shipped in sea containers paid for by contributions from people like you. It costs about 50 cents to send a book from the United States to Africa. Books For Africa has shipped more than 35 million books to 49 different countries since 1988. Over the past 12 months we have shipped 2.4 million books, 665 computers and 200 e-readers containing 1.6 million digital books, as well as 5 new law and human rights libraries to 21 African countries. More than $2.3 million was raised last year to ship the books to the students of Africa.
Books For Africa is pleased to have a dynamic business relationship with Vector Global Logistics. Vector is our premier partner, arranging the lion's share of our shipping across the African continent. Over the past several years, we have shipped to approximately 30 African countries using the services of Vector. They do great work and we are pleased to have them as our shipping and logistics partner in getting our books to our partners in Africa.
At SERV, we give people the opportunity to make a difference. We build connections with communities in Kenya and the Dominican Republic by serving nutrient-rich meals to millions of people.
We grow relationships with these communities and engage holistically by meeting urgent needs for resources like clean water and safe shelter, so we may share the love of God.
Then we keep coming back.
The local and global SERV International team is so grateful for our partnership with VECTOR Global Logistics. Every shipping container they move helps to feed 100 people in desperate need, and to date they have provided over 260,000 meals in Kenya and Dominican Republic. A huge thank you goes out to everyone at VECTOR for giving back and making a difference, and for saving the lives of thousands of people by putting a bigger purpose behind their business. The people at VECTOR are world changers.
Each year, just under 2 million children under the age of 5 die because they don't have access to water for drinking and washing. Millions more do not have access to quality health care, healthy food or the chance to go to school. That's why Save the Children invests in childhood - every day, in times of crisis and for our future. In the U.S. and around the world, we give girls and boys a healthy start, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. When generous people like you make your 100% tax-deductible gift, children's lives are saved and their futures are brighter.
